Abstract

1355828 Coating apparatus TAKEDA YAKUHIN KOGYO KK 29 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 60426/71 Heading B2L Apparatus for coating particulate material such as tablets comprises a coating chamber 11 having a cylindrical drum 11 a and a rotatable plate 12a with means 31a to detect the amount of coating liquid in the mixture. Granules to be coated are placed in the chamber by means of a hopper 21 and a powder to be coated on the surface thereof is introduced through a hopper 22. A liquid to help with the distribution of the coating powder is introduced through a tube 23b by an air stream or as an airless spray. The amount of liquid introduced is controlled by a valve 23a dependant on the specific resistance of the mixture as measured between an electrode 31a and the side of the coating chamber. Air is introduced by a blower 24 below the rotating plate, which has a central frustrum 12b, and may be drawn out by an extractor 14. Air passing around the edge of the plate 12a prevents powder falling below the plate. Hot air may be introduced through a pipe 25 to dry the coated granules and the extractor 14 collects excess dry powder. A thermometer 32a is also placed in the coating drum. The drum may be used for batch coating or for a continuous coating process.
