Abstract

1355435 Trench excavators WORLEX INDUSTRIES Inc 19 Aug 1971 39081/71 Heading E1F An endless bucket-excavating apparatus is pivotally mounted for rotation about a substantially horizontal axis 20 between parallel arms 16 mounted on a vertically swingable boom 12 mounted on a mobile chassis 10, the rotation of the apparatus about the axis 20 being controlled by a ram 22 operatively disposed between the apparatus and the boom to lie above and substantially parallel to the boom. The arms may be either rigidly secured directly to the boom or may form the arms of a yoke rotatably mounted on the boom about an axis at right angles to the axis 20. The apparatus may be the bucket ladder as shown or may be a frame extending in a plane at right angles to the longitudinal plane of the boom and having in this plane a peripheral configuration that may be trapezoidal, rectangular, triangular, or circular and about which the bucket carrying means circulate. The peripheral configuration of the apparatus may be varied by appropriate arrangement of detachable structural modules. The apparatus discharges into a laterally extending endless belt conveyor or into a conveyer scroll. Vertical movement of the boom is preferably controlled by hydraulically interlocked piston cylinder units 60, 70 that can, if required to do so, apply a positive downward depressive force on the boom. In the embodiment shown the bucket-carrying chain is formed of arced links having on the inner faces gear teeth for meshing with the drive gear of the chain.
