Abstract
1354921 Two part couplings INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 15 July 1971 [17 July 1970] 33190/71 Heading H2E A plug-and-socket set comprises a socket 8 having attached thereto a switch 12 operated by means of a slidable member 11, and two mating plug ports 1. One of the plugs has an annular extension 9a which is sufficiently long that the slidable member 11 of the switch is operated on insertion of the plug. The other plug has a shorter extension (9, Fig. 1, not shown) such that on mating this second plug with the socket, the switch is not operated. The socket may be used on a piece of electrical equipment with which is associated two alternative pieces of auxiliary equipment each carrying a respective one of the two plugs, the arrangement permitting different contact arrangements to be connected depending on which of the two plugs is inserted, e.g. a phonograph or a microphone may be used with a radio having a single input socket of the above type. The plug- and-socket set may comprise two sockets and a single plug, one of which contains a switch.
