Abstract
1354445 Reactor pressure vessels COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 17 Aug 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 38458/72 Heading G6C The main containment vessel 6 of a nuclear reactor utilizing liquid metal coolant 7 is suspended from concrete protective seals 10a by means of collars 11 which extend from the roof 9 of the vessel, around upper parts of components 4, 8 disposed in the vessel, and through apertures in the slab 10a so as to rest on the upper surface of the slab 10a through bearing means 12. The bearing means 12 may comprise wheels or rollers enclosed in an annular cavity defined by a portion of the slab, the collar 11, a top flange 11a of the collar and a downturned flange 11b thereof. The components 4, 8, which are, respectively, circulation pumps and heatexchangers, have upper flanges 14 which bear on the top flanges 11a of the collars and include sealing 0-rings 13. An inner vessel 5 enclosing the core 1 is also suspended from the slab, separately from the vessel 6. The top opening of the vessel 5 is closed by one or more rotatable plugs 15. The mode of suspension described enables the collars 11 to follow temperature-induced changes in the roof 9 and to move relative to the slab 10a without bellows seals being required about the joints between the collars 11 and components 4, 8. A flow of liquid metal can be associated with the roof 9.
