1354276 Trueing grinding wheels A A JONES & SHIPMAN Ltd and J HOULDSWORTH 14 Sept 1971 [15 Sept 1970] 43893/70 Heading B3D A grinding wheel dressing apparatus comprises a removably-mounted carrier 15 fitted with a dressing tool 2 having a radiussed cutting tip, the tool being adjustable relative to a first datum on the carrier in a first direction along an axis of the tool which passes through the centre of the cutting tip radius, and the carrier being movable in a second direction at right angles to the first direction and provided with adjustable stop means 30, which co-operate with a part 32 of the apparatus to define an adjusted position of the cutting tip in the second direction. The cutting tip may consist of a diamond mounted in a holder to form the dressing tool 2 and shaped to have a wedge shaped nose. The tool is axially adjustable in the first direction in a bore 14 of the carrier by a screw 18 and can be secured in position by clamping screws. The carrier may be mounted on the arm 10 of a pantograph mechanism and is slidably adjustable in the second direction, which is parallel to the wheel axis when the arm is in its central position, to a position determined by an adjustable stop screw 30 on the carrier engaging an abutment 32 secured to the arm. The carrier may be adjusted into position by rotation of a screw 27 having a collar engaging a slot 28 in the carrier, the carrier then being locked in position by a screw 23. In another embodiment, the stop screw is replaced by an adjustable wedge. The arrangement permits the tool and carrier to be removed and replaced on the arm with the cutting tip in the same position relative to the arm.
