1354122 Basic monoazo dyes SANDOZ Ltd 29 April 1971 [30 April 1970 4 May 1970] 11467/71 Heading C4P New basic monoazo dyes, free from acidic water-solubilizing groups, of formula wherein (a) R is an alkyl radical containing at least 2 C atoms, R 1 for a H or halogen atom or an alkyl radical, Hal is a halogen atom, X is an aliphatic, aromatic or araliphatic bridge member, Y is the direct link or -N(R 2 )-, R 2 is a H atom or an alkyl radical, A<SP>(-)</SP> is an anion and K<SP>(+)</SP> is an ammonium or hydrazinium radical, the radical of a heterocyclic ring compound containing a quaternary N atom or the radical of an etherified hydroxylammonium group, radicals R, R 1 , X, R 2 and K<SP>(+)</SP> being optionally substituted or (b) the group stands for a radical of formula wherein R 3 is a hydrocarbon radical and Z completes an aromatic ring which may contain one or more further hetero atoms and R 3 and Z are optionally substituted, are prepared by azo coupling or condensation reactions which introduce the basic group. The dyes are used to colour natural and synthetic fibres, in particular polyacrylonitrile fibres, in yellowish red shades.
