Abstract

1353461 Calcining coke MARATHON OIL CO 20 April 1971 [6 May 1970] 10237/71 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] The average particle size of petroleum coke is increased during calcination at temperatures in the range 1800 to 3000‹ F. by calcining the coke in the presence of gases which contain not more than 0À1% by volume free oxygen. The initial coke has an average particle size lying in the range 10 to 3000 microns and a VMC in the range 10 to 25% by weight based on the weight of dry coke. The average particle size of the calcined coke is in the range 100 to 50000 microns, and the VMC in the range 0À01 to 1À0% by weight.
