Abstract

1353318 Fusible cut-outs DORMAN SMITH FUSES Ltd 8 Nov 1971 [6 Oct 1970] 47345/70 Heading H2G The handle of a fuse carrier 14, Fig. 1, incorporates a neon lamp 28, visible through a window 26 and connected in series with a resistor and a fuse in parallel with the fuse cartridge 17. The lamp, resistor and fuse may be housed in cavities in a block 27, Fig. 4, which is a snug fit in the handle. The block may be transparent or opaque with an aperture for the lamp to be seen. Connections to the fuse cartridge may be by resilient metal tongues 38 or by leads enclosed in conducting rubber trapped under the terminals of the cartridge. A mask 41 which can conveniently be made of a resilient material unaffected by elevated temperatures, e.g. silicone, neoprene or polyacrylic rubber, is placed between the fuse cartridge and the insulating body and is shaped so as to provide an escape channel for ionized gases which may be produced by a detonatable indicator spot exploding. The mask may have a lip projecting into the space between the neon lamp and the fuse cartridge to shield the neon lamp from the blast of such an explosion.
