Abstract

1353143 Electro-depositing on to phosphor particles DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 1 June 1971 [3 March 1970] 10041/70 Heading C7B [Also in Division C4] In making an electro-luminescent device (Div C4) phosphor particles, made of a compound or compounds of a Group IIb element with a Group VIb element with at least one of the rare earth elements as activator, are coated with a Group Ib element. The phosphor may be zinc sulphide and/or selinide with the activator at least one of Er, Eu, Tb, Tm, Dy, Ho in an organo-metallic compound thereof, to which Li may be added; Mn as coactivator may be in admixture. Phosphor particles, maintained by agitation in suspension in an aprotic solent e.g. dimethyl formamide or sulphoxide, may be electro-coated with Cu by using Cu positive and negative electrodes; the Cu deposit may be 0À2% of the particles.
