Abstract
1353112 Gas burner controls ETABS SOURDILLON 1 Feb 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 4753/72 Heading F4T [Also in Division G1] A thermal sensitive assembly for thermostatically controlling the heating of, e.g. a vessel on a domestic cooker comprises a thermal sensitive device 1 connected by a capillary tube 3 filled with temperature responsive fluid to a remotely located thermostatic element, the capillary tube 3 extending along an arm 5 which traverses a flame path and being enclosed in a sheath 12 of good thermally conductive material. As shown, the device 1 is urged by the spring action of a coiled capillary portion and/or a spring acting on the arm 5 which is pivotally supported at 7 into engagement with a vessel (not shown) supported by a grid 8 above a gas burner 9, 10 of a cooker, the conductive sheath 12, which may be of copper, acting as a heat pump so that the fluid in the capillary tube 3 reacts not to the action of the flame but to the temperature of the vessel and correspondingly actuates the remotely located thermostatic element. The device 1 may be supported by a head 4 of metal and/or ceramic material connected to the arm 5 which may be of stainless steel and which may enclose both the capillary tube 3 and the sheath 12. Insulating material such as glass wool or steatite may be arranged between the capillary tube 3 and the sheath 12 and/or exteriorly of the sheath.
