Abstract

1352207 Hub reduction gearing HAMWORTHY ENG Ltd 8 Nov 1972 [18 Nov 1971] 53648/71 Heading B7H In a motor vehicle driving axle, a drive shaft 1 located within a rigid axle casing 2 is arranged to drive a hub assembly 3 rotatably mounted on the casing 2 through planetary reduction gearing including planet pinions 8 mounted on the end face of the casing 2. The planet pinions 8 may be mounted on pins 9 supported by the casng 2 and by a carrier member 5 bolted to the casing, or they may be mounted by bolts directly on the casing 2. The planet pinions 8 mesh with a sun gear 4 on the shaft 1 and ring gear 11 on the hub assembly 3. In another embodiment the planet pinions are carried by the hub assembly and mesh with a ring gear bolted to the end face of the axle casing.
