Abstract

1351715 Ink supply elements for "fibre" pens PILOT MAN-NEN-HITSU KK 1 May 1972 20037/72 Heading B5A [Also in Division B6] In a process for the continuous production of ink supply elements for writing implements, a parallel array of molten thermoplastic filaments is continuously produced by extrusion through a perforated die, and the filaments are caused, by drawing, to adhere to each other, while in the molten state, so as to form a continuous bar having a plurality of capillary ink channels extending therethrough; the bar is cooled and cut into suitable lengths. The die perforations are arranged sufficiently close together for the molten filaments to mutually adhere on drawing without the application of external pressure. The thermoplastic may be a polyamide, polyacetal, or polycarbonate. The bar may have a variety of cross-sectional shapes, and arrangements of the capillary passages, as shown in Figs. 4, 5, 6.
