Abstract

1351606 Navigation apparatus SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 May 1971 [5 June 1970] 27151/70 Heading GIN In apparatus for measuring the magnetic heading of a craft, in order to compensate for distortion of the Earth's magnetic field by the craft and changes in the distortion (due e.g. to rotation of a gun), two mutually perpendicular components of the Earth's field are sensed by respective sets of fluxgate magnetometers 1, 2, 3 and 4, 5, 6, whose outputs are combined as shown in respective amplifiers (13, 15) in proportions adjusted empirically by potentiometers (12, 14, 21 and 22). The outputs of amplifiers (13, 15) are connected to circuits for deriving a compass indication and a position indication in the manner described in Specifications 1196262; 1196263 and 1196264.
