Abstract
1351587 Ultrasonic inspection devices KRAUTKRAMER GmbH 12 Feb 1973 [11 Feb 1972] 6739/73 Heading H4D Apparatus for testing a moving metal sheet 20 comprises a row of ultrasonic testing heads 1 mounted on a slider 2, a drive motor 4 and clutch 5 for reciprocating the slider transversely with respect to the sheet motion, spring members 7 which act as reversing abutments for the slider, and limit switches 6 (only one shown) near the sheet edges for dis-engaging the clutch while the slider reverses its direction of travel. To accommodate lateral motion of the sheet edges, feelers 9 abutting the edges control hydraulic cylinders 8, 10 and pistons 8a, 10a which move the spring members 7 in a followup manner. Feelers 9 are initially set to a position dependent on the slider speed as determined by a tachometer 12. Cylinders 8 can be fixed at different points along guide 11a to allow for different sheet widths. Units 14, 15 monitor the sheet 20 feed rate and control motor 4 so that the zig-zag ultrasonic scanning tracks are distributed uniformly over the sheet.
