Abstract

1350963 Protective arrangements SOC GENERALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES ET MECANIQUES (ALSTHOM) 19 April 1971 [17 March 1970] 24472/71 Heading H2H [Also in Division G3] A supply system for a self-propelled vehicle comprises a heat engine 2 driving an alternator 1 which supplies D.C. drive motors 3 of the vehicle through a rectifier 4 and which supplies its field winding 5 through a rectifier formed by three diodes of the rectifier 4 and three thyristors 6 whose firing angles are controlled to maintain the alternator output voltage at a predetermined value. A divider 11, 12 provides a signal representative of the voltage of the rectifier 4 to a comparator 13 which is also supplied with a reference voltage 14 representative of the predetermined value and which produces an error signal for transmission to an amplifier 15 whose gain is controlled by the signal from divider 11, 12. The output of amplifier 15 is supplied to a gate control device 17, which also receives phase reference signals A1, A2, A3 from the anodes of the thyristors 6 and the signal from an electronic switch 19 which performs the triple function of selecting the appropriate phase reference signal, controlling the filtering of the latter signal and varying the gain of the device 17 in accordance with the output of the amplifier 15. The outputs of the device 17 control a trigger circuit 20 providing firing signals to the thyristors 6. A circuit comprising elements 21-26 limits the voltage developed across the field winding 5 in a manner described later. This circuit may be replaced by an inductor-capacitor combination, Fig. 1 (not shown). Protective action of the circuit 21-26.-The voltage developed across the winding 5 is coupled via the capacitor 25 and damping resistor 24 to the primary winding of the transformer 21, whose secondary winding is limited to a voltage determined by the battery 22. Thus when the voltage across winding 5 exceeds a predetermined value corresponding to the latter limit, the diode 23 conducts to cause the excess voltage to charge the battery 22.
