Abstract

1350620 Rotary gear machines H MOLLY 8 Oct 1971 [13 Oct 1970] 47002/71 Heading F1F [Also in Division F2] A bearing 8 for the ring gear of an internallymeshing gear machine is located in a space between the ring gear and the housing, which space is connected to the high-pressure side of the machine, Fig. 1 (not shown), and has a pair of lowpressure zones 13, (14) delimited by rectangular grooves 15a on its inner surface, and connected by passages 16 to smaller low-pressure zones on the outer surface of the bearing delimited by resilient O-rings 17 and communicating with the adjacent fluid connection, so that the zones on the low-pressure side of the machine will be at low-pressure and operative, whichever direction the fluid-flows through the machine. Thus, while effective sealing of the ring gear against the spur gear and the crescent-shaped filler is maintained deformation of the ring gear on the low-pressure side is avoided. Axial slots 9, 10 enable the bearing to expand or contract to a small extent under load.
