Abstract

1350616 Photo-copying apparatus RANK XEROX Ltd 3 Sept 1971 [3 Sept 1970] 41149/71 Heading G2A In apparatus for copying an opaque original 1, having a platen a, lamps 5, lens 11 and a light sensitive surface 12, there is provided an auxiliary light source 8 adjacent the platen a for illuminating the underside of the original 1 as it is placed over a transparent portion 3 of the platen, so that an operator may view the underside by reflected light and accurately position the original for copying. As shown, the operator 28 sees the reflection of the underside in the portion 3. In another embodiment Fig. 3, (not shown), the reflection is visible in a transparent block (19) mounted at one edge of the platen (a). In a further embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown), the platen (a) is inclined, a mirror (18) being used in copying. In a fourth embodiment Fig. 4, (not shown), the auxiliary source (8) is mounted under a transparent plate (31), and at one side of projection aperture (2), a masking layer (13) preventing stray light from entering the main optical system.
