Abstract
1350585 Rope guides; stress limiting devices DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 22 Sept 1971 [23 Sept 1970] 45314/70 Heading B8B A rope securing device comprises a body 1 mounted to rotate about a fixed pivot 14 and having relatively rotatable and stationary pulley guides 3 and 4 mounted thereon, the rope being looped around the rotatable guide 3 and the two rope strands 20, 21 passing in overlying relationship around the stationary guide 4 with the terminal rope strand 20 having the radially outer position on the guide 4, whereby when the body 1 is rotated clockwise (in Fig. 1) the rope strand 21 becomes locked on the guide 4, and is released by varying degrees with anti-clockwise rotation of the body 1. The axis of the pivot 14 is positioned radially outwardly of the centreline of the rope strand 20 leaving the guide 4 whereby tension in the strand 20 tends to maintain the locked condition of the device. The body 1 is rotatable either by handle 19 thereon or through a worm-gearing on the pivot axle 14, and a spring loaded stop may be provided to latch the body 1 in its rope-fully-locked position or its rope-fully-free position.
