Abstract
1350452 Rotary cutters J KARPF and G WALTER STEFFENS 21 May 1971 [4 June 1970] 16222/71 Heading A4C A rotary cutter comprises a driving shaft carrying a plurality of driving members 2, Fig.3, a parallel-sided groove 2' in each member 2, a respective knife 3 or each of two respective knives removably secured in each groove 2' each by a respective securing member 3a, each member 3a having an edge engaging a lateral wall of the corresponding groove, said edge having teeth 3c engaging teeth 2f on said engaged lateral wall to secure the knife against radial movement relative to the driving shaft. Each member 3a may have two parallel edges each provided with teeth, the teeth on one edge being offset relative to those on the other edge by half a tooth length, and both lateral walls of each groove 2' may have teeth. The knives 3 may be evenly spaced around the driving shaft, Fig. 2 (not shown), or arranged in groups, Fig. 1 (not shown). Each groove 2' may be formed by mounting two jaw members 2b in spaced positions on a disc 2. Each securing member 3a may have an oblong hole 3b receiving the driving shaft. Each groove 2' may receive two securing members 3a, each having a bifurcated inner end part with equal length legs and two lateral edges each provided with teeth, Fig. 6 (not shown), or each having a bifurcated inner end with a longer leg 3d, Fig. 5, and a shorter leg 3g, each leg 3d having a toothed outer edge engaging a respective jaw member 2b and a rectilinear inner edge engaging a respective bar 3f fixed to the base of the groove, which bar is also engaged by a toothed or rectilinear outer edge of the shorter leg 3g of the other member 3a in that groove. In a further embodiment, each driving member 2 has a groove 2' on a front face and another groove 2' on a rear face, each groove receiving a respective single securing member 3a. The securing member 3a may be the knife shanks, or members fixed to the knife shanks which may then have peripheries corresponding to the driving discs 2, Fig. 8 (not shown).
