Abstract
1350255 Sustained release medicament HASSLE AB 28 May 1971 [4 June 1970] 18136/71 Heading A5B A sustained release tablet comprises one or more active substances soluble in digestive juices and a three dimensional network which (a) is insoluble in digestive juices, (b) constitutes less than 10% by weight of the tablet, (c) comprises at least one thermoplastic and/or resinous plastics material and, (d) has sufficient mechanical strength to delay leaching of the active substance(s) on contact with digestive juices but is broken down by intestinal peristaltic movement when the active substances have been leached out. Suitable plastics materials are: polyethylene, polypropylene, polymethyl methacrylate, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl chloride, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate -copolymer, silicone resin and polystyrene. The network may also comprise a waxy material, e.g. carnauba wax, beeswax, natural or synthetic paraffin wax or microcrystalline The tablet may be formed by compression of a granular mixture of the ingredients. Tablets are disclosed which comprises, (a) KC1, (b) caffeine and (c) FeSO 4 and ascorbic acid.
