Abstract

1349711 Non-woven laminated material BREVETEAM SA 11 Jan 1972 [12 Jan 1971] 1150/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division D1] A non-woven fibrous sheet material comprises a first fibre fleece whose filaments are unshrunk or slightly shrunk, and a second fibre fleece whose fibres are highly shrunk, fibres of the second fleece extending to grip fibres of the first fleece, the material having a textured surface defined by protrusions or ribs lying between the extending fibres. The material may be formed, Fig. 5, by needling highshrink fibre layer 3 from beneath so that some of its fibres 16 project through low-shrink fibre layer 9, needling the layer from above so that the projecting fibres form loops 32, Fig. 7, and heat shrinking the layers so that the loops and layer 3 contract to form protrusions 33, Fig. 8, on layer 9. The minimum dimension of the non-needled spaces of the material may be 3 mm. A support material, e.g. a netting or a foamed material, may be included between the fleeces, which comprise cross-lapped fibres. Fleece 9 may be pre-compacted by first needling it to a support of synthetic material. The non-woven material may be provided with a backing layer, e.g. of non-woven fabric or foamed material. The material may be impregnated with a binding medium on its surface opposite to its textured surface.
