Abstract

1349540 Chairs EXPO NORD A B 16 June 1971 28260/71 Headings A4H and A4J In a chair having front legs 6, and rear legs 4 and a back rest merging in a seat 2, the back rest has an upper portion 1A and a lower portion 1B inter-connected by U-shaped portions 4A, 4B forming the rear legs 4. The chair may have continuous bent side frame members 5 connected by transverse bars 7 and by material forming the seat and back. The back, so formed, tapers in width so that the tension of the body-supporting material may be adjusted by sliding the material along the frame members 5 without requiring the transverse members 7 to be adjustable. Preferably the lower portion of the back tapers downwardly and the upper portion upwardly; the seat portion may also be tapered forwardly, permitting several chairs to form an arcuate row, in which case the upper portion of the back may be made tapering downwardly so that the tops of the backs abut.
