Abstract

1348696 Making scissors M P HOTHMANN 11 May 1971 [6 June 1970] 14271/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division B4] A pair of scissors comprises a pair of jaws having blades 4, 6 integral with shanks 9, 8, which are stamped from sheet steel, each blade having an outside and inside surface 14, 15, an edge surface 7 lying in the cutting plane of the scissors and a cutting edge 16 formed at the junction of the surface 15 and edge 16, the surfaces 14, 15 of each blade being curved about a first axis extending in the direction of the blade and the cutting edge 16 being curved about a second axis extending transversely of the direction of the blades. The steel sheet is 0À4 mm. thick and is of polished stainless steel so that no finishing operations are required after stamping, other than grinding the edges 16. The blades may be curved during the stamping operation or subsequently thereto. In alternative constructions a pair of blades 6 are formed either with shanks 8, which fit into plastics handle parts 13, or a pair of blades 4 are formed with plastics covered metal handles. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the plastics handles are extended over the swivel joint to act as a reinforcement. The plastics material may contain a fluorescent additive.
