Abstract

1348232 Application of adhesive to corrugated webs EICKHOFF-UNIVERSAL-WELLPAPPENMASCHINEN GmbH 4 April 1972 15281/71 Heading D1L Apparatus for applying glue to the peaks of a corrugated web 3 comprises an applicator roller 4 rotating in a trough 6 of glue and a circumferentially grooved doctor roller 9 forming a nip with the applicator roller 4, the doctor roller 9 being arranged to doctor the roller 4 to leave bands of glue on the web contacting surface thereof. The grooves 10 in the surface of the doctor roller may be annular or helical (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) and are preferably formed with a depth of 0.1-0.2mm and a width equal to the width of the lands separating them. A scraper blade 13 or air knife may be provided for removal of residual glue from the grooves of the doctor roller. The applicator and doctor rollers are rotated in opposite directions and are preferably axially shiftable with respect to each other to provide, when desired, staggering of the spots of glue applied to the web 3. The nip pressure between roller 9 and roller 4 may also be adjusted to regulate the thickness of glue retained on the roller 4. As illustrated the glue applying apparatus may be arranged in combination with web corrugating rollers 1 and 2 and with a back-up roller for pressing a flat web 5 against the glued peaks of the corrugated web 3.
