Abstract

1347890 Matrix displays STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 28 Oct 1971 50079/71 Addition to 1273667 Headings G5C and G4H A display arrangement includes a plurality of arrays 4, 5 of light emitting semi-conductor devices, a semi-conductor shift register 7 associated with each array, connections between each device and a stage of the associated register whereby the register controls the devices and an encoder 8. The registers are connected and data passes in series to the appropriate register when a clock pulse is applied to cause energization of selected devices. Each array comprises a 7 x 5 or 5 x 3 GaAsP diode matrix formed from a monolithic chip. Each register comprises a silicon device forming a single module with the diode matrix. The diodes may comprise 7 or 9 bar arrays, each bar being connected to two register stages to provide increased current. To prevent flicker during up dating, gates may be inserted between the registers and diodes.
