1347800 Conditioning garments McGRAW EDISON CO 31 Jan 1972 [24 March 1971] 4401/72 Heading D1L [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for conditioning and removing wrinkles from garments supported on hangers comprises a walled cabinet defining an enclosure 12 for the garments, a loading and unloading access opening 21 to the cabinet closable by doors 22, a support rack 60 within the enclosure for holding the garments at the hooks 80 of the hangers, a steam inlet pipe 50 located in the lower part of the enclosure for the introduction of conditioning steam and a drying air blower (32) [Fig. 2, not shown] having an inlet 34 for removing air from the enclosure 12 and an outlet 35 opening into a passage 36 formed by side wall 16 and partition 38 for recycling the air back to the enclosure via heating element 44 and passage outlet 40, a shaking device 90 being provided in the enclosure to engage the garment hangers at the stem portions thereof to shake the garments during conditioning in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction of the garments on the hangers via a shaker motor 98, a rotatable shaft 96 extending into the enclosure, eccentric plate 102 keyed to the shaft 96, connecting link 104 and shaker bar 92. As illustrated in Fig. 6 the support rack 60 for the garment hangers is preferably connected to the doors 22 of the enclosure by links 70 pivotally connected at 72 to a cross bar part of the support rack and at 74 to the doors so that on opening the doors the rack 60 is pulled to the front of the enclosure on rails 68 mounted in the side of the cabinet. The support rack 60 also includes a plate having a vertically disposed tooth arrangement with slot 78 for receiving the garment hangers and diverging faces 82 for easy placement of hangers into the slots. Shaking device 90 likewise includes a toothed plate 92, the plate being disposed horizontally to engage the stems of the hangers on rack 60 in the slots 108 and thus to shake the hangers when motor 98 is is switched on. The shaking of the garments during conditioning with steam and drying with hot air facilitates the circulation of these fluids round and into the garments and thus effectively removes the wrinkles therefrom. The apparatus may be programmed to carry out successive steaming and drying operations automatically.
