Abstract
1347561 Core constructions NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 19 April 1971 [30 Jan 1970] 20689/71 Heading H2A The rotor of a two pole or four pole reluctance type dynamo-electric machine carries a squirrel cage winding and has a single main flux barrier (two pole machine) or two main flux barriers (four pole machine) with a span equal to the pole pitch, and a single auxiliary flux barrier (two pole machine) or at least two auxiliary flux barriers (four pole machine) of smaller span. In a four pole machine as shown in Fig. 1 there are two main flux barriers 1, 2 each spanning a pole pitch and the adjacent ends of the two flux barriers being spaced apart by a pole pitch. The auxiliary flux barriers 3, 4, may be located as shown or, alternatively, may be located radially outside and generally parallel to the main flux barriers, Fig. 2 (not shown). Alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), there may be four auxiliary flux barriers, two as shown in Fig. 1 and two as in Fig. 2. There may be axially extending, peripheral channels on the quadrature axes, Figs. 5 to 7 (not shown), these being filled with conductive material forming part of the squirrel cage. In a two pole machine, Fig. 8, there is a single main flux barrier 71, the ends of which lie on a diameter of the rotor and accordingly span the pole pitch. There is also a single auxiliary flux barrier 74 disposed as shown. Peripheral channels 75, 76, are provided on the quadrature axis.
