Abstract
1346952 Amides containing an aryloxyisobutyryl group KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO Ltd 17 Dec 1971 [18 Dec 1970] 58661/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein each of Ar and Ar<SP>1</SP> are aryl groups which may be substituted in the aromatic nucleus and X is H, or Cl, Br, CH 3 COO, stearoxy, phenylthio, 4-carboxyphenoxy CH 3 SO 2 O-, or benzotriazolyl. The compounds in which X is H may be obtained by reacting a compound of formula wherein R is an alkyl group, with an amine of the formula Ar<SP>1</SP>-NH 2 . The compounds in which X is other than H may be obtained from compounds in which X is H by known methods. Examples are given for the preparation of the compounds. They are useful as colour couplers for silver halide emulsions. An α-aryloxy-isobutyric acid ethyl ester may be obtained by reacting an α-halogeno-isobutyric acid ethyl ester with an optionally substituted phenol in the presence of sodium alcoholate. An α-aryloxy-isobutyryl acetonitrile may be obtained by treating the previously formed ester with sodium acetonitrile. An α-aryloxy-isobutyryl acetic acid ester may be obtained by imino-etherification and hydrolysis of the previously formed nitrile.
