Abstract

1346271 Comminuting refuse UNDEMANN MASCHINENFABRIK GmbH 23 May 1972 [5 June 1971] 24246/72 Heading B2A A machine for comminuting refuse, e.g. waste paper, comprises a rotor 6 which rotates about a horizontal axis in a housing 2 and movable cone, as shown, a worm conveyor or a horizontal or vertical bucket conveyor. In the machine shown bundles of waste paper 22 are fed by a conveyor 23 onto a chute 8 down which they slide so as to be engaged by the tearing tools 5. The tools 5, which may be swingable hammers, throw the paper against walls 24 and 9 of the housing 2 and the comminuted material is drawn into the inlet opening 13 of the channel 12 by the has tearing tools 5, an inlet opening 3 in the housing 2 through which bales or bundles of refuse 22 are fed to the tearing tools 5 at a position in which they are moving upwardly, and a channel 12 which closely surrounds the rotor 6 where the tools are moving downwardly. The comminuted refuse is introduced substantially horizontally into the channel 12 and is carried by the current of air produced by the rotation of the rotor 6, a throttling device 19 being provided for throttling the current of air after it leaves the channel. The arrangement is such as to prevent stalling of the rotor and/or excessive output. The throttling device may be an axially current of air produced by rotation of the rotor 6. The opening 13 lies in a plane which is at an angle a to the vertical plane through the rotor axis. The angle a is from 0‹ to 25‹ preferably 18‹ to 22‹. The upper part of the channel 12 is defined by a block 14 having grooves aligned with the paths of the tools 5. The channel 12 leads to a flared housing 17 in which the throttling device 19 is located. The device is in the form of a cone with helical blades 20 and is rotatable and axially adjustable to control the output of material from the machine. Comminuted material is fed by a fan 25 via a cyclone separator 26 to a baling press 28.
