Abstract
1346030 Removing sulphur compounds from waste water DAIKYO OIL CO Ltd 30 March 1972 [14 May 1971] 15203/72 Heading C1C Odorous sulphur compounds (e.g. hydrogen sulphide and mercaptans) are extracted from waste water into a hydrocarbon oil and the oil phase separated from the water phase, e.g. by settling or electric separation. The oil phase may be dehydrated and subjected to a hydrogenation-desulphurizing process in which sulphur is removed as hydrogen sulphide, which may be subsequently converted to sulphur. The water phase may be used to desalt crude oil which oil removes any residual sulphur compounds in the water phase. The waste water is preferably adjusted by acid or alkali to a pH of 4-7. The oil may be kerosene or gas oil having a M.W. of 100-300.
