Abstract
1345867 Delivering measured quantities of liquid EDWARD WILLIAMS (HOLDINGS) Ltd 15 Sept 1971 [6 Oct 1970] 47377/70 Heading B8N Apparatus for intermittently passing predetermined volumes of liquid, e.g. to or from an hydraulic ram or linear or rotary actuator to obtain incremental movements, comprises a piston 33 with a piston-rod 35 carrying a stop 38 adjustable by hand wheel 39, and an annular piston 40 slidable on rod 35. Liquid to be supplied to the ram or actuator is connected to port 41, by moving solenoid valve 43 to the left, and port 42 is connected to exhaust. Pistons 33, 40 then move to the right until adjustable stop 36, 37 on piston-rod 34 engages cylinder end 31, port 44 then being uncovered by piston 33 and port 45 aligned with an annular groove in piston 40 adjacent piston 33. Liquid flows into the groove from port 41 via port 44, check valve 46 and port 45 and moves piston 40 to the right until it contacts adjustable stop 38 on piston-rod 35. Valve 43 is then moved to the position shown, admitting supply liquid to port 42 and connecting port 41 to exhaust, and the piston assembly moves to the left until piston 33 contacts cylinder end 31. Piston 40 continues to move to the left, discharging the liquid trapped between the pistons through port 47 to the ram or actuator.
