Abstract
1345733 Processing film sheets POLAROID CORP 24 June 1971 [26 June 1970] 29736/71 Heading G2A In a photographic apparatus in which processing liquid is spread between two superposed sheets of photographic material by passing the sheets between a pair of pressure-applying members, the gap between these members is greater at their marginal portions than in the centre, so that the layer of liquid is thicker at these marginal portions than in the centre. In this way the possibility of under-development at the margins is avoided. Fig. 2 shows an exploded view of the pressure-applying or spreader elements, as mounted in the camera of Fig. 1 (not shown). The first spreader element 26 has a flat section 64 from which a section 66 extends at an angle to define a sheetcontacting surface 68. Section 64 has ears 72, 74 at either end, the ears having slots 76, 78. The second spreader element 28 has a flat section 32 connected to a platform 34 to define a sheet-contacting surface 36. At the ends of platform 34 are flanges 48, 50 having holes 80, 82 therein. The element 26 carries a pin 70 at its mid-point, and a rod 30 passes over this pin. When elements 26, 28 are assembled together, holes 80, 82 are in alignment with slots 76, 78, and the ends of rod 30 pass through these aligned apertures, so that the elements 26, 28 are pivotally attached to each other. They may consequently be pivoted apart for inspection or cleaning. As shown in Fig. 7, when the spreader elements 26, 28 are in their operative positions the element 26 has recesses 140, 142 near its ends, and the flexible rod 30 exerts a force against pin 70 so that the element 26 is deformed into the configuration shown in Fig. 7. Thus as the two photographic sheets 122, 128 are drawn between the spreader elements, so spreading the processing liquid 134 between the sheets, the liquid layer is formed with an increased thickness 136, 138 at each end. In the modification of Fig. 11 (not shown) one of the spreader elements is a roller having concavities (160, 162) towards its ends, so producing the same result.
