Abstract

1345369 Floating booms HERMAN GOTTHARDT AB 19 April 1971 [18 March 1970] 24529/71 Heading E1H A floating boom unit comprises a plurality of floats 1 formed of foamed polyurethane having closed pores, enclosed in a common casing 2 of PVC coated polyamide or polyester fabric, to which is seam welded a fin 3 of like material having a galvanised weighting chain attached to its lower edge. Adjacent boom units are interconnected by a galvanised iron bar provided with staples 10, 11, 12 which pass through eyes 14, 15 in the overlapping canvas or webbing reinforced edges of adjacent fins, a locking pin 16 passing through the staples. Preferably the galvanised chain is prestressed relative to the fins so that when assembled boom units are being towed (Fig. 2 not shown) the chains are tensioned more than the fins. Preferred dimensions and weights are given. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1243176.
