1344635 Piezo-electric and magnetostrictive motors and generators PLESSEY CO Ltd 5 May 1971 [14 May 1970] 23356/70 Heading H2A [Also in Divisions G3 and F1] The amplitude of vibration of an electrically vibrated fuel atomizing nozzle is stabilized by negative feedback from a transducer responsive to the vibration. In Fig. 4, the nozzle 23 is vibrated by a piezo-electric element 16 and the vibrations are detected by a coil 25 fixed to the housing 15 co-operating with an annular permanent magnet 23 fixed to the nozzle. Modifications.-The drive transducer may be magnetostrictive. The pick-up transducer may be capacitive or piezoelectric. A dummy nozzle may be used in the control loop for controlling an active nozzle.
