Abstract

134,385. Goold, L. W., (American Laundry Machinery Co.). Nov. 27, 1918 Ironing - machines with pressing action only.-In a hot press for garments, a supplementary plate, interposed between and movable relatively to the pressing-members, is adapted to supply steam to the article under treatment and may also be used to pat it. The lower fixed member 3 is provided with the usual heating-chamber and steam supplying and exhausting chamber overlaid by a perforated plate and padding. The movable pressing head 19 is steamheated and carried by a counterweighted lever 18 operated in the usual manner by pedal 25 and toggle mechanism. On the pivotal axis of lever 18 is swivelled a pipe frame 31 of similar configuration to the pressing-members and filled in by a metal plate 38 and by a cloth sheet 39 held in place by a spring frame 40. By means of a valve 45, steam may be admitted to a perforated portion 36 of the pipe frame and thence through the space 41 between the plate 38 and sheet 39 to the garment. The supplementary frame is balanced by a weight 46, and when the press is open may be nsed to pat the garment in order to release steam.
