Abstract

1343380 Expanding-pulley gear PIV ANTRIEB WERNER REIMERS KG 23 June 1972 29545/72 Heading F2D In an expanding pulley comprising an axially fixed conical flange 2 and an axially movable conical flange 3, the flange 3 is provided with an hydraulic cylinder 6 containing a piston member 5 which is rigidly secured to the shaft 1. The pressure chamber 10 communicates through a bore 9 in the shaft 1 with a supply of pressure fluid and is connected to the chamber 12 through a small throttle passage 11. A small annular gap 13 provides a restricted outlet for pressure fluid from the chamber 12. In operation, pressure fluid flows through the bore 9 into the chamber 10 to press the flange 3 against the transmitting element 4. The chamber 12 is filled with fluid through the passage 11, whereby the centrifugally produced axial pressures in the chambers 10, 12 substantially balance. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the chamber 12 is arranged so that the centrifugally produced axial pressures balance over the whole speed range. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the arrangement is such that the axial pressure produced by the fluid in the chamber 12 exceeds that in the chamber 10 at high speeds.
