Abstract

1342891 Skid rails for furnaces MORGAN REFRACTORIES Ltd 19 Jan 1971 [23 Jan 1970] 3408/70 Heading F4B [Also in Division F2] A furnace skid rail or a support for a skid rail is sheathed by an inner layer of resilient, fibrous refractory material 3, with an outer layer of tiles 4, 5 separated by mortar filled joints 6 and held in place by screw-threaded ties 8 so that the fibrous refractory layer 3 is in compression. The adjacent edges of the tiles are tongued and grooved or otherwise shaped so that no direct heat path is formed by the mortar joint. The heads or nuts 10 of the screw ties are countersunk in the tiles and covered with a mortar plug 11. The sheathing may be applied to members of circular or polygonal cross-section.
