Abstract
1342863 Lubricated injection moulding compositions PRECISION METALSMITHS Inc 28 March 1972 [12 April 1971] 14449/72 Heading C3P An injection moulding thermoplastic composition comprises granules of a mixture of wax and a thermoplastic material, the granules carrying a coating of at least 0À03 wt. per cent based on the composition, of a silicone fluid. The preferred amount of silicone fluid is 0À1 to 0À5 weight per cent. Preferred waxes are paraffin wax and fatty ketones such as stearone or laurone, although others such as spermaceti, beeswax, Chinese wax, stearic acid, carnauba wax, Japan wax, bayberry wax, candelilla wax, lauric acid, ozocenite, montan wax, ceresin petroleum waxes and Fisher-Tropsch wax are specified. Thermoplastic materials specified are ethylene/ vinyl acetate copolymers and ethyl cellulose. Mixture of waxes may be used and other, compatible resins may also be present. The compositions are formed by preparing the granulated wax/thermoplastic material mixture, and then mixing this (e.g. by tumbling) with the silicone fluid. In an example an ethylene/vinylacetate copolymer, polymerized rosin, microcrystalline wax, Fisher-Tropsch wax, and paraffin wax are mixed and granulated, and the granules tumbled with a silicone fluid. The compositions are used to make injection moulded casting patterns.
