Abstract

1342729 Door locking HOOVER Ltd 19 April 1971 [3 March 1970] 10123/70 Heading E2A [Also in Division F2J] A thermoresponsive mechanism comprises a movable member 12, an interlock arranged in one position to prevent or limit movement of the member, temperature sensitive and current generating means arranged to produce a current in an electro-magnetic device, the magnetic force produced by the electro-magnetic device by the current being capable of maintaining the interlock in the said one position. As shown, a door bolt 12, e.g. a door on a rotating mechanism such as a washing machine or spin drier, is movable between locking and retracted positions by a link 14 pivoted on the bolt and having connected thereto an actuating knob 13 carrying a pin 40 co-operating with a guide slot 41. A bell-crank lever 25 is connected by arm 28 to the disc 30 of the electro-magnet 33 the coil of which is connected to a copper-constantin thermocouple. In operation, when the machine is operating, the thermocouple is at a sufficiently high temperature to cause a current to flow to the coil 35 such that the spring 29 does not overcome the magnetic pull on the plate 30 whereby the arm 26 of the lever is maintained in a notch 27 in the bolt 12. Upon ceasation of current flow in the thermocouple the plate 30 is freed to allow the lever to rotate clockwise under the influence of a spring 29 and to free the arm 26 from the notch 27 when the link 14 abuts the stop 20 and the bolt can be released.
