Abstract
1342386 N - Alkoxymethyl - N - aminoalkylurethanes BAYER AG 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970] 23781/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Novel N - alkoxymethyl - N - aminoalkylurethanes of the general formula wherein R is (C 1 -C 6 ) alkyl, R<SP>1</SP> is (C 1 -C 6 ) alkylene optionally interrupted by oxygen atoms X is hydrogen, hydroxyl or a radical of the formula and n is an integer of from 3 to 6, are prepared by catalytically hydrogenating a cyano compound of the general formula wherein Y is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group or a radical of the formula preferably at a hydrogen pressure of from 25 to 150 atmospheres and a temperature of from 30‹ to 130‹ C. using, as catalyst, a metal of Group VIII. The cyano compounds may be prepared by reacting an #-aminonitrile with a chlorocarbonic acid ester or a cyclic carbonate, reacting the resulting nitrile which contains urethane groups with formaldehyde at a pH above 7 to give the corresponding methylol compound and etherifying this methylol compound with an alkanol at a pH below 7. The novel compounds may be used for the preparation of thermally cross-linkable polyurethanes by the isocyanate polyaddition process.
