Abstract

1341387 Coating apparatus INSTITUT NATIONAL DU VERRE 19 April 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 5831/70 Heading B2L [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for applying a treatment medium onto the top surface of a sheet, e.g. a sheet of glass 1 while the bottom surface thereof is protected from said treatment medium comprises first and second endless conveyers 4, 5 which support the sheet 1 during its passage through a coating station 2 at which a protective composition is applied to the bottom surface of the sheet 1, said composition, e.g. a solution of a vinyl polymer, being such as to form a protective peelable membrane on said sheet surface, the sheet 1 then continuing on the conveyer 5 to a treatment station (not shown) where means is provided for applying said treatment medium to the top surface of the sheet 1, the said membrane being then peeled off the bottom sheet surface. The conveyers 4, 5 comprise respectively endless chains 6, 7 and 8, 9 connected by slats 10 which each carry a number of pointed elements 11 on which the sheet is supported, and thus the protective cover which is applied to the bottom surface of the sheet 1 at the sation 2 is not damaged due to the point contact therewith of of the elements 1. The first conveyer 4 may be replaced by a belt or roller conveyer.
