1341324 Octadienes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 June 1972 [2 July 1971] 31124/71 Addition to 1278806 Heading C5E The process of Specification 1,278,806 for the preparation of 1,6- and 1,7-octadienes by contacting one or more acyclic dienes with Pt, Pd, Rh, Rn, Os or a compound thereof in a polar solvent in the presence of a reducing agent is modified by using an amine as the polar solvent. Suitable amine solvents are alkylamines, cycloalkylamines, arylamines and heterocyclic amines such as morpholine and pyridines. Tertiary amines are preferred, e.g. triethylamine.
