Abstract

1341233 Hot pressed silicon nitride PLESSEY CO Ltd 1 Feb 1972 [12 March 1971] 6790/71 Heading C7D A two stage process of forming an article containing Sn 3 <SP>-</SP>N 4 comprises hot pressing the powder and then repressing the compact. Repressing is preferably effected at 1650- 1850‹C at 0À5-2 t. s. i. in a graphite or nitreous carbon mould. The mould surfaces used in the initial hot pressing may be coated with a BN slurry and the contaminated surface layer of the hot pressed compact may be removed e.g. with a diamond tool prior to repressing.
