Abstract

1341104 Amidoalkane - sulphonic acids LUBRIZOL CORP 19 April 1971 [3 Feb 1970 (2) 10 Dec 1970] 20453/71 Heading C2C An amidoalkane-sulphonic acid is prepared by reacting a nitrile and an olefine having less than 10 carbon atoms with sulphuric acid of at least 90% concentration (including oleum), these being the only reactive substances present, and recovering precipitated product. The products derived from RCN and R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>C=CR<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP> are of formula RCONHC(R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>2</SP>)C(R<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP>)SO 3 H. Inert diluents may be present and the process may be continuous; the sulphuric acid may be concentrated in situ. Examples prepare 2-acetamido - 2 - methylpropane sulphonic acid, 2- benzamido - 2 - methylpropane sulphonic acid, 2 - decanamido - 2 - methylpropane sulphonic acid, N,N<SP>1</SP> - bis - 2 - [2 - methyl - 1 - sulphopropyl] - hexanediamide, 2 - acrylamidopropane sulphonic acid, 2 - acrylamidobutane sulphonic acid, 2 - acrylamido - 3 - methylbutane sulphonic acid, 2 - acrylamido - 2,4,4 - trimethylpentane sulphonic acid, 2-acrylamidocyclohexane sulphonic acid, 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulphonic acid, 2 - acrylamido-2- phenylethane sulphonic acid, 2-acrylamido-2- (methylphenyl) ethane sulphonic acid, and 2- acrylamido-2-(chlorophenyl) ethane sulphonic acid. Other products and suitable reactants are listed.
