Abstract

1341098 Dock-levellers KELLEY CO Inc 21 May 1971 [1 June 1970] 16330/71 Heading B8E A dock-board 7, Fig. 2, which is counterbalanced by a spring 18 so that it inclines upwards as shown, has means 24 for preventing the upward movement comprising a tube 25, pivoted to a fixed support, within which is a resiliently supported tube 30, Fig. 4, provided with pawls 36, 37 which engage a ratchet 33 pivoted to the dock-board. To raise the dock-board a pawlrelease lever is pulled by means of a cable 66 with a handle 69. This causes the pawls to be withdrawn by a projection 41, Fig. 4, connected to the handle by a lost motion device which comprises a pin 53, Fig. 5, a slot 65 and a spring 56. When the dock-board is fully raised the handle 69 is released and an operator walks along the board to bring it down into engagement with a vehicle platform. The released pawls hold the board in this position and the spring 32 enables the board to rise slightly as the vehicle is unloaded. Only one pawl is fully engaged at a time thus providing finer adjustment.
