Abstract

1341071 Feeding and delivering sheets XEROX CORP 5 Jan 1971 [12 Jan 1970 (2)] 386/71 Heading B8R Feeding sheets.-Articles such as newspapers are separated from the bottom of a pile 20 by a reciprocating member driven by a slider 19 and coupled thereto by a latch 15 releasable by a solenoid 6 to stop the separation, and are then fed by rollers 11 and a conveyer 26 past a sheet sensor 75 and the head 8 of an addressing- machine. A gate 9 prevents double feed. Delivery sheets.-Sheets are delivered from the addressing-machine by the conveyer 26 on to the bars of an elevator 12, and against a plate 51 and between side plates, to be stacked. As the stack builds up beneath a sensing skid 55, the elevator is lowered slowly under the control of the skid, until a counter controlled by the sensor 75 records a predetermined number of sheets, whereupon the solenoid 6 is energized to stop the feeder, the lack of sheets passing the sensor 75 causes the action of the head 8 to be stopped, and the elevator, after a delay to allow all separated sheets to reach it, is lowered rapidly until the bars of the elevator pass between the bars of an interceptor 14, on which the stack thus rests. Closing of a switch 92 by the elevator brings the elevator to rest by the disengagement of a clutch and application of a brake, while closing of a switch 94 actuates an ejector 16, which is advanced to push the stack on to a conveyer 24, whence it is removed, failing which a safety switch 126 acts to stop the conveyer. The ejector closes a reset switch 99 which results in the elevator rising rapidly to its upper position, ready to receive a new stack.
