Abstract

1340829 Conveyer strip for use in blood coagulation tests TECHNICON INSTRUMENTS CORP 16 Nov 1970 [4 Dec 1969] 40408/72 Divided out of 1325730 Heading B1X A flexible strip for use in the automatic determination of the coagulation time of blood samples comprises a flexible tape of for example transparent polyethylene terephthalate having a plurality of discrete sample carrier zones disposed at regular intervals along the tape, each zone comprising a plurality of opaque magnetic particles adherently held in the zone by a binder soluble in the sample to provide a suspension of the magnetic particles. The zones may be formed by boundary walls produced by embossing the strip. The magnetic particles which may be a circular particles of iron, nickel or cobalt oxides may be applied by printing the zone areas with a suspension of the particles in aqueous polyvinyl pyrrolidone-glycerine solution. In use, blood plasma samples and a coagulating agent are introduced into each zone; the strip is then subjetted to a moving magnetic field and the movement of the magnetic particles observed as the reaction mixture coagulates (see Division G1).
