Abstract

1340642 Making bags; seaming non-metallic sheet material GLOUCESTER ENG CO Inc 5 July 1972 [6 July 1971] 31445/72 Headings B5D and B5K A machine for making plastics film bags from a web 8 comprises vertically movable elongate heat-sealing bars 10 each of which is supported by columns 14 through flexures 18 and brackets 43, and is driven by an hydraulic piston-andcylinder drive 30 which moves longitudinally a series of pivotally interconnected cam surfaces 24 in contact with cam followers 22 carried by the columns 14. The cam followers 22 are maintained in contact with the cam surfaces 24 by means of springs 34 acting upwardly on arms 33 connected to the columns 14. The height of each cam surface 24 is adjustable by means of screws 74 acting on L-shaped blocks 68 in which the cams are slidably positioned. A heat-resistant, non- stick curtain (46) is supported along the length of the bar 10 between bobbins 44 and is indexed periodically. A vertically reciprocating preforating blade 120 is provided between the heatsealing bars 10. The perforating blade 120 is carried on a plate 100 which carries rollers 114 in contact with a series of interconnected cams 110 which are horizontally reciprocated by means of an hydraulic rotary actuator (350) such that their cam surfaces (370) are in contact with fixed cam followers 106. The plate 100 is biased against the cam assemblies by the action of springs 102 against levers 104.
