Abstract

1340174 Making gas filters AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO Inc 27 Jan 1972 [1 Feb 1971] 3892/72 Heading B3A [Also in Divisions B1-B2] In making a rectangular gas filter (Fig. 4, not shown) metal strip is fed from roll 21 under die 26 which expands alternate sections of strip leaving others solid, slitter 27 cuts off lengths of strip each comprising two solid and two expanded sections and rams 31, 32, 33 and 37 fold each length first into an open tray with an upstanding side, then into a box like frame (Figs. 3, 4). Glass fibre filter medium may be added by ram 34 between the folding stages as shown or before folding begins. Means 41 (Fig. 8) finally add impervious end caps (2, 11) to close the open ends of the frame. In a modification (Figs. 5, 6, not shown) one expanded section is extended sideways to provide margins (12) which are folded up and subsequently covered by end caps (2, 11).
