Abstract

1340023 Paper treating apparatus; MEAD CORP 29 April 1971 [29 April 1970] 12102/71 Heading D2A [Also in Divisions B1 and B2] The surface of a rotating roll 11 is cleaned by supplying liquid through a perforated conduit 14 to an open-celled sponge-type of material 12 engaging the surface whereby a film of the liquid is formed on the surface, and removing at least part of the film of liquid and any contained foreign material by means of a doctor 16. The roll may be a paper machine roll round which passes a web of paper 10 and the liquid may be water. The material 12 is enclosed in a housing 13 and the conduit 14 may be disposed outside the housing with its perforations registering with openings in the housing. The material 12 may be polyurethane, foam rubber or real sponge.
